In business for nearly 50 years, Sam’s Pizza shares the same wall space with neighboring Sarris Candies in East End, Canonsburg. Current owners, David and Kimberly Rhome and Rege and Marti Passante, took over the tradition 20 years ago, continuing and improving the Canonsburg mainstay.
The two families operate and manage the business themselves with a total hands-on approach. The core of their business: customer service. “We don’t deliver, so we get to know the customers when they come in,” stated Marti Passante. “We have come to share people’s life cycles through the increases and decreases in the size of their orders.”
Their commitment to the community goes far beyond pizza and hoagies. All tips go to charities such as The Turkey2000 Campaign, feeding the underprivileged, and homeless outreach.
In addition to pizza, Sam’s offers a full variety of hoagies, salads, strombolies, beverages and the increasingly popular individual pepperoni rolls. The square cuts of Sicilian pizza are old-style Italian, available with sixteen topping options. Since the pizza is served by the cut, your topping options can be personalized. “I love that I can order just four cuts with mushrooms and pepperoni, while my husband can have 5 slices with sausage and anchovies. They even box them separately,” as one long-time customer stated.
Sam’s Pizza has won countless awards over the years, including 2008 “Best of Washington County.” “We pride ourselves on our homemade sauce and dough which is made daily,” said Kimberly. “We even make our own meatballs.”
The shop has such a loyal following that out-of-towners make Sam’s one of their must stops when visiting Canonsburg. Customers have been known to call upon landing at Pittsburgh International Airport to place their orders for pick up.
